Quick Breakfast Recipe: This Bread Dahi Upma Will Be Ready In No Time

Breakfast is the first and most important meal of the day. It replenishes our body with essential nutrients and helps us remain energised for the rest of the day. While there are plenty of breakfast dishes to choose from, it is often recommended to kick-start your day with a nutritious meal. And one such healthy breakfast option is upma. A popular south-Indian breakfast dish, it is made by simmering roasted sooji in spiced boiled water. However, if you’ve run out of your stock of sooji, fret not. Here we bring you a quick and easy recipe that is made using bread. Yes, you heard us. Bread acts as a great substitute for sooji and tastes equally good.

As the name suggests, this recipe is made using bread and dahi. Bread cubes are soaked in a curd mix and then sauteed with a mix of dals, curry leaves and veggies. It is super easy to make and is ideal for days when you’re running short on time. It is a great alternative for the classic upma recipe. And the best part is that you don’t even compromise on the taste. So, without much ado, let’s take a look at the recipe. 

Bread Dahi Upma Recipe: How To Make Bread Dahi Upma 

To begin with the recipe, first, cut the bread slices into small cubes. Now, in a bowl, add curd, salt and water. Mix well. Pour this curd mix over the bread cubes. Mash it nicely using the back of a spoon and let it soak for around 5 minutes.  

Next, heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds, chana dal, urad dal and peanuts. Mix well. Add chopped onion, curry leaves, green chilli, ginger and salt. Now, add water and combine well. Add the soaked bread cubes, chopped tomato and ghee. Garnish it with coriander leaves. Bread dahi upma is ready!
