Indigo Stock Price Today: IndiGo bullish on market; confident pre-Covid numbers will get beaten soon: Abhijit Dasgupta

“At Indigo, we are flying higher than our pre-Covid levels and we are seeing demand come back to normal in the way that it behaves in terms of seasonality and in terms of different segments of the market travelling,” says Abhijit Dasgupta, Head of Network Planning, IndiGo Airline

The airfare cap is gone. What will it mean for the airline?

Broadly speaking we always believed that once we are out of this anomalous period, which was the pandemic and all supporting interim measures that were taken over a period of time, would go away. The fare cap was effectively a support measure for the industry and consumers so that it did not become too expensive or too cheap to travel.

Now that we are back to pre-pandemic levels, we are back to normal scale. It is a step in the right direction to take away all these interim supports and let the market find its own equilibrium.

But the flyers’ numbers are not the same. Pre-Covid level average for domestic flying was somewhere around 4 lakh, but it is still around 3 lakh, 3,20,000-3.40.000 if the going is very good. Looking at the upcoming season, the next quarter could be your analysis. What could be the factors that will ride in this growth because you look so promising in this direction?

Of course, from a pure numbers view, there is still some recovery left but in terms of the way the demand dynamics is functioning, it is back to normal. At Indigo, we are flying higher than our pre-Covid levels and we are seeing demand come back to normal in the way that it behaves in terms of seasonality and in terms of different segments of the market travelling.

All of these things are now behaving very similar to normalcy and therefore removing all these barriers that were placed to support the industry over the last two years is the right step to take. With the festival season coming, we are quite confident that all these pre-Covid numbers will also get beaten pretty soon but yes we are quite bullish in this market.
