Boat With AK-47s Belongs To Australian, No Terror Angle Yet: Minister

Three AK-47 rifles and some bullets were found on the boat.

A suspicious boat with AK 47 assault rifles and other weapons was found in the sea off Maharashtra coast in Raigad. It belongs to Australian citizen Hana Laundergun, said state home minister Devendra Fadnavis.

  1. The 16-metre long boat with three AK-47s, bullets, and other weapons was found near Harihareshwar Beach in Raigad in a damaged condition by fishermen, Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said.

  2. Raigad MLA, Aditi Tatkare, said that she has requested Maharashtra Chief Minister for a special probe in the incident.

  3. She also said that the incident is a major security scare as it comes a day ahead of a big festival.

  4. “Tomorrow is Dahi Handi, Ganeshotsav is just 10 days away. People come here during these festivals. Security is an important issue,” Ms Tatkare told reporters.

  5. Some locals spotted the boat, having no crew member, located 190 km from Mumbai, and alerted security agencies.

  6. Raigad Superintendent of Police Ashok Dudhe and other senior officials rushed to the spot and searched the boat.

  7. The police said the boat came floating to the Raigad coast.

  8. Officials said that dismantled weapons were found in the boat.

  9. Three AK-47 rifles and some bullets were found on the boat and the police were conducting further investigation.

  10. Security has been tightened in nearby areas and police are on high alert.
